The Bruno, Narancia, and Diavolo Famitsu Special with New Stages and Mode Reveals

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2013/06/12 by OnePixelJumpMan

That was nice and speedy. The Famitsu special for Part 5 characters is out with all the moves ready. And of course, there’s a generous translation from over on Dustloop. As last time, I’ll post the character pictures, their taunts, their Great Heat moves, and any extras, so feel free to open the link in a new window and read along.

Bruno Buccellati (Noriaki Sugiyama) and Sticky Fingers

A character featured in part 5. Though initially an enemy of Giorno’s, he has taken a liking of Giorno’s “Dream” and invited him in his team. Buccellati himself is a calm, level-headed leader of the team who earned everyone’s trust. His Stand, Sticky Fingers, has the ability to create a zipper on any object it hits to take it apart.

Command move: Closing zipper!
Buccellati can move quickly while his Stand is off thanks to this move. By holding onto the zipper on the ground, he is able to quickly zip back and forth around the battlefield. Moreover, thanks to being low to the ground, he can dodge projectiles and other attacks. While moving this way, you can perform “Looks like I’ll have to dispose of him!”.

Command move: Looks like I’ll have to dispose of him!

Command move: Over there!
A punch with great range from the zipper!

Command move: Ariariariari
Buccellati’s Stand unleashes a flurry of punches!

Command move: Opening zipper!
Buccellati attacks the enemy with a zipper in the ground.

Command move: Bloody bastard
By unzipping his own arm and that of his Stand’s, Buccellati can attack the enemy from far away.

Command move: I already realized that, too!
Buccellati and his Stand punch the ground simultaneously. The hand emerges from the zipper far away, hitting the enemy from an unexpected angle!

Command move: This isn’t my “Arm”

Normal throw: This has already become a “Torture session”.

Taunt

Heart Heat Attack: Are you ready? I will do it.
Buccellati grabs the enemy and falls into the space below the zipper along with them. Both players then erupt out of another hole and hit the ground. This move deals a lot of damage, though it deals some damage to Buccellati, too.

Great Heat Attack: Arrivederci
After being launched into the air with the Stand, the enemy falls underground through the zipper. The Stand quickly erupts from underground and unleashes a brutal “Ariari” combo! Finally, they are blown away with the last hit, as Buccellati says “Arrivederci” (goodbye).

Unique: The Chance of Fate is giving him another chance from “Heaven”
Bruno will have the unique ability that, at zero health one match away from losing, he can stagger up and fight again with a little health. It’s reminiscent of Bruno in the original being able to continue on past his final limit, and he will strike the appropriate pose.

Narancia Ghirga (Yuuko Sanpei) and Aerosmith

A character featured in part 5. One of Buccellati’s subordinates. Though he may seem innocent and unreliable, he has great spiritual power when it comes to protecting his friends, allowing him to face any danger head-on. His Stand, Aerosmith, takes shape of a plane that can attack with bombs and machineguns. It also has the power of detecting carbon dioxide, allowing Narancia to attack targets he can’t even see.

Command move: Can’t run away!
The Stand is summoned after a punch, firing machineguns.

Command move: I’ll make you talk!
Narancia raises his left hand upwards, letting his Stand fly and fire machineguns diagonally upwards.

Command move: If I can’t shoot, then I won’t
The Stand charges the opponent, cutting them with the propeller.

Command move: Take flight!
While in Stand mode, Aerosmith flies around the screen. You can follow it up with “Go, over there!” and “It’s worth shooting the hell out of you!”.

Command move: A beehive!
Aerosmith continuously shoots bullets with his machineguns.

Command move: Disappear!
Aerosmith drops a bomb, damaging the enemy with the explosion.

Command move: Go, over there!
You can change Aerosmith’s flight route with the direction buttons.

Command move: It’s worth shooting the hell out of you!
After traveling the determined route, Aerosmith unloads his machineguns on the enemy!

Throw: How about this! And this!

Taunt

Heart Heat Attack: Get them with the bigger one!
Aerosmith continuously bombs the opponent.

Great Heat Attack: Volare Via!
The Stand unleashes its guns, while Narancia is saying “Volavola…” – of course, ending it with “Volare Via” (have a nice flight).

Diavolo (Morikawa Toshiyuki) and King Crimson

A character featured in part 5. Boss of the gangster organization “Passione”. So no one knows his identity, he usually acts under the guise of a young boy named Vinegar Doppio. His Stand, King Crimson, can see into the future as well as erase time.

Vinegar Doppio (CV: Akira Ishida)
Diavolo’s second identity. A young boy who is deeply loyal to “Boss”. Boss himself takes over the body whenever he wants, but Doppio is not aware that Boss is inside of him.

Command move: It’s over!
A powerful overhead punch with the Stand! When the enemy is hit, they are forced into the knockdown state.

Command move: Time goes on again!
A powerful body blow from King Crimson! By holding down the button, this attack can be made unblockable.

Special move: Your life is in my hands!!

Command move: “King Crimson”!

Step movement: I’ll only skip half a second!
Before Diavolo’s forward step and backstep, he leaves crimson traces of teleportation. The enemy’s attack will never hit him while in this state.

Counter-move: What a meaningless act
A special counter-move that activates right before getting hit by the opponent. Though it costs Heart Heat Gauge, you enter the “Time erasure” mode, able to rewind the enemy’s attack as if it never hit you.

Command move: The time has been erased…!!
While in the “Time erasure” mode, the enemy repeats his attack over and over again, while Diavolo is completely invincible and can do whatever he pleases, moving out of the attack’s trajectory. After a certain amount of time or when you press an attack button, the “Time erasure” mode ends.

Throw: I won’t let you go!

Taunt

Heart Heat Attack: Epitaph
The ability that lets Diavolo see into the future with 100% precision. While in this mode, Diavolo dodges most of the enemy’s attacks automatically with Stylish Action. However, it does not drain his Guard Gauge.

Great Heat Attack: Pinnacle of Eternity
After activating the Great Heat Attack, the enemy’s attack is parried, as Diavolo activates the “Time erasure” mode, approaches the defenseless enemy from behind, and delivers a brutal blow from King Crimson.

Whew, again. Lots and lots of information, and that, again, isn’t even the end of it. They’ve also released a picture of the main menu screen with a list of each menu type. Story, where you play along with the manga story of the character, Campaign, a classic arcade mode, and Versus, Practice, Customize, Gallery, and Option, which are all self evident.

A big, new gameplay element has been put out. Once again, from Dustloop:

ゴゴゴ (rumbling manga SFX) “Rumbling” Mode: When HP is low, this is activated automatically, attack power increases and gauges fill up faster.

Preparedness Mode: Attacks no longer make you wince/flinch. Only 4 characters so far can activate “Preparedness Mode”: Giorno, Bruno, Mista, and Hermes.

I await the balancing arguments that come from only those characters having the incredible no flinching. I’m not sure how it’s activated, but it should also have something to do with health. The Awakening, as it basically is, makes sense.

There’s also a few more stages: The Naples Train Station where Pecci can hit you with his fishhook; Rome where Secco can create mud pits and knock you over.

Finally, they’ve revealed some situation finishes. For Downtown Cairo, you can slam Kakyoin into the water tower. For Dio’s Cairo tower, if you finish him over by the opening in the wall, he’ll be thrown out and evaporate in the sun. For the Wall Eyes, I’m not sure what’s happening, but it involves Joshuu and Yasuho.

All right! We’re at the end of the Par 5 debuts, so we’re ready to move on to the next characters. Come on, F.F. and Valentine. You’ve been keeping me going so far, CC2, but you’re not done with character reveals until the next Part 6 and Part 7 sets. Let’s hope for the best!

“And now watch as I pull a spinning rabbit out of this hat.” Little by Little 2

Back for more fun, there’s a new chapter/edition of Little by Little up on Batoto. Virgina Room brings you another chapter of JoJo’s fun with a few quick jokes to bring you a smile and a good laugh.

There’s a different spread of content this time. The first issue had around two or three jokes per part with a little extra like the Joseph Finisher Rhyme-Off. This issue actually has a full on Part 2 story about Caeser’s and Joseph’s training days where Joseph climbed out of the Hell Climb pit only to be pushed back in every day. There’s also a lot more Part 4 gags.

Something about this makes me feel like I should be creeped out.

And we got to expand into full on Parts 7 and 8 jokes.

The only downside is that the issue cuts down in other areas. There’s only the one Part 5 joke and no Part 6 material at all other than a splash page of Jolyne. There’s also no new cross story interactions like the quiz show in the first one, but the jokes are still good and the art is still pretty nice. If you liked the first, you’ll like the second. And you can trust me on that.

I pledge to you that my taste is and will remain both honest and sanitary.

(Thanks to Little by Little‘s translator, Monocle, for sending me the link to the new issue.)

Stardust Crusaders Vol. 5 on Sale for Probably the Next 15 Minutes or So

Viz stopped printing their editions of Part 3 a while ago for whatever reason they did. Because of that, collectors had to shell out way more money than you should for one comicbook to get all the volumes for a full collection. One of the really rare ones was, apparently, Volume 5 which would cost an arm and a leg to get at this point.

Until now. At time of writing, Amazon has eight copies of the book in stock for $8-ish if you account for shipping. This is Amazon selling the books themselves, not just acting as a liaison for other online retailers, so they should be in good quality. If you’re the collector type and need that rare book under your belt, I would go now. Collectors are quick to act.

So Jotaro and Kakyoin are in the Bathroom…. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure SNES English Patch Released!

Posted in JoJo's Year, Text Articles with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2013/04/13 by OnePixelJumpMan

I was wondering why the last sub set, from a particular group at least, mentioned the Stardust Crusaders SNES game. The English fan patch for the game has been officially released and is ready for download.

As you may come in knowing, the game is a JRPG. Combat is done in the Dragon Quest style where the battle screen is taken up by a view of the enemy rather than the Final Fantasy style where there are sprites on opposing rows, though you do see actions by your characters when taken. Jotaro even gets to start beating school punks with Star Platinum early on. The most unique thing is the way you move. You move in a side-scrolling fashion in a letterbox view which allows the game to keep something of a comic book asthetic. The party is down in the bottom blacked out. It’s easier to see it, which you can with this gameplay demo.

You can also get a taste of the sound. This game has been noted around the internet for having a very nice soundtrack. And now you can experience the full game with a new English patch.

The guy making the patch qualifies it as “not great, but not bad either,” and also as being fairly short but it’s a nice little piece of JoJo’s history, and, while it may not have been much of a fight in the manga, there’s something very amusing about “Facing off with The Sun.” The ROM is pretty easy to find with a quick Google search, so check it out.

All Star Battle PV 4 Subbed! “I’ve taken the meaning out of your language.”

I assumed you guys would be interested in knowing what they were saying. It helps me out. I didn’t know what it was JoJolion Josuke was doing during his Grand Heat, but the friction stealing is cool. Okuyasu calling Giorno names makes way more sense than insulting his topknot that he totally has. His classic style “uurrryyy” is also a nice touch.

(Thanks to JoJo Tumblr for being that chain link. You can see the original post here.)

All Star Battle PV 4! Father vs. Daughter, Gun vs. Gun, Vampire vs. Pompadour, RERO vs. RELA

Yeah, that’s the way to do it. Can we agree that we’re coming into ASB with a little “who’d win in a fight” mentality? The moment Mista and Hol Horse were both set to be in the game, I was thinking about who has the better gun stand. But the stand out rivalry is obviously the all out cage match of Cherries vs. Cheese.

The gameplay that we got to see with the main showcase characters, Johnny, Johnathan, Will, and JoJolion Josuke are pretty interesting. I was wrong about what move I thought would be the On Fire Fist, but we knew it would be there. Zoom punch got my attention because it looks like it sticks for a second instead of retracting immediately. If it does, it could be really awesome for anti-air because an opponent could misjudge the time and still jump into it. Will also has it, so I await my match where we sit across the ring just doing that at each other.

Johnny looks like he’s either going to be the character that’s really hard to use because of his very limited movement when not on Slow Dancer but very rewarding if you can handle him or the character that caters to spamming because he’s going to be projectile heavy. That does follow; his power was shooting his fingernails, but I don’t want that to mean he’ll be the back-up-and-shoot-you character.

JoJolion Josuke I think is going to be the trap/counter character with that all based around the soap bubble. I’ve got to give CC2 some credit for what they used for his moves because you see him using a bunch of soap bubbles as a barrier around his body like the shaving scene. He also does that at a distance, but I’m mostly interested in when the screen goes black. That specific bubble will steal the players’ “eyes” by blacking the screen so whoever’s JoJolion Josuke can get a free hit. That’s going to be really hard to use for human player because it blanks the screen, but there may be more to it than what’s in the PV.

Oh, and Kira. He has Sheer Heart Attack, but that’s all they’re telling us. I figured he would also be a counter/trap character because of the way Another One Bites the Dust works and all the bombs, but it’s not in the PV. At this point, I think we can be clear that Kira is DLC only. The way he’s rolled in with the Hayato Memo Book and the specific mention of PSN in the text on the still intro page (edit: and that he’s listed as such on the official character page.) You gotta buy him extra. If you don’t want to mess with getting foreign DLC, you might want to import fast.

All Star Battle PV 4 Preview Images

Now this Famitsu article contains more disclosure on JoJolion Josuke.

So we’re going to have an after battle grading system ala Street Fighter 4. Fair enough. I wonder what the quality is determined by. Maybe it’s your combo rating, but I could see there being a posing quota you have to reach to get above a C.

These images were taken by a Famitsu rep at the CC2 special even a little bit ago. You can tell based on that title card that at least some of these pictures are part of a new PV. Lots of JoJolion Josuke, who will be voiced by Mitsuaki Madono (Pizza in GaoGaiGar Final, Noriaki Kakyoin in Heritage for the Future, Toru Adachi in Persona 4.) What I really love is that the white version of his outfit, the most normal colors, is the alternate colors against the orange version. JoJo colors are so fab that alternate crazy colors are the boring ones.

But what’s got my attention the most is that Kira and Sheer Heart Attack are in this PV. When I read the Famitsu article that I posted before this one, it did seem to say that Kira was going to be a DLC character that you could get through a promo included with the first run of the game. But here he is in the PV like he’s just going to be around, so maybe not. Kira will be voiced by Rikiya Koyama (Shinigami in Souleater, Mamoru Takamura in Hajime no Ippo, Duke in Tales of Vesperia.) I hope I am wrong about Kira being DLC only and that he’s in the game proper. The PV that comes out on the heels of this should clear it up.

There are a few more characters and events bumming around.

RERORERORERO at the start of every fight

And there are a couple of displays.

The full display version of the special figures

And some demo booths. Go Josuke! Punch your ancestor!

Look forward to PV 4 soon.

All-Star Battle Trailer Number 3

Posted in JoJo's Year, Videos, Voice Actors with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2012/12/22 by OnePixelJumpMan

Remember how I mentioned that CC2 was bringing out a new trailer for ASB at Jump Fiesta?

Here it is. I’m mostly just going to let it speak for itself because me speaking for the trailer would pretty much just be, “AH. DID YOU SEE THE THING WITH THE BASEBALLS AND THE STEAMROLLER AND-” and so on. What I will tell you are the voice actors.

Jolyne Kujo – Miyuki Sawashiro (Celty Sturlson in Durarara!!, Fujiko Mine since 2011)
Hermes Costello – Chizu Yonemoto
Giorno Giovanna – Daisuke Namikawa (Bat in Legends of the True Savior, both Italies in Hetalia)
Guido Mista – Kenji Akabane (Koji Kabuto in Shin Mazinger, I’m not even writing anything else, he was fucking Koji Kabuto)
Sex Pistols – Asami Imai (Kurisu Makise in STEINS;GATE)
Josuke Higashikata – Wataru Hatano (Largan Drace in Gundam AGE, Rufus in Street Fighter 4)
Okuyasu Nijimura – Wataru Takagi (Eiikichi Onizuka in GTO, pretty much every anime character like that and Okuyasu)
Mohammad Abdul – Masashi Ebara (Might Guy in Naruto, Andy in Cowboy Bebop, Andy in Cowboy Bebop because it bears repeating)
Hol Horse – Houchu Otsuka (Yazan Gable in Zeta Gundam, Gen in Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still)
Noriaki Kakyoin – Kouji Yusa (Shadow the Hedgehog, Urataros in Kamen Rider Den-O)
Jean Pierre Polnareff – Hiroaki Hirata (The Japanese dub actor for Johnny Depp, Sanji in One Piece, Wild Tiger in Tiger & Bunny)
Dio - I’m going to give you enough credit to assume you already know.
Jotaro Kujo – Daisuke Ono (Kenji Kusanagi in Kotetsushin Jeeg, Snow Villers in Final Fantasy XIII)

And that’s the new PV. It’s looking fantastic, the sense of humor they’ve got with the little Josuke and Okuyasu moments, the casting is really good. Now all we need is the characters from Part 1 and hopefully more from Part 7. Then we’ll be set.

JoJo’s the Animation with Subtitles and a Better Game Trailer

Posted in JoJo's Year with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2012/09/24 by OnePixelJumpMan

The anime community is quick on the ball to translate something I wanted to see. You remember the JoJo’s Animation trailer, now remember being able to know what was said during it.

Takehito Koyasu was an excellent pick for Dio. But that’s not all. Now we have a better look at the trailer for All Star Battle. It doesn’t have a Rohan cosplayer, but you can hear the voices better.

The game still looks interesting. I didn’t expect Gold Experience Requiem to be in the game since that seems a little unbalanced what with it being invincible, but maybe it’s just a power up ultra like when Makoto from Street Fighter gets a sunburn. More importantly, at least from this trailer since it isn’t gameplay, are that I can finally distinguish the voices well enough to comment on them. At first, I thought that everyone was fine except maybe Joseph, but I’m not sure anymore. Jotaro and Wham sound appropriately voiced, Jotaro being very calm and collected even when kicking ass and Wham sounding like he has a lot of authority and being calm inside that, but their actors don’t sound as into it as they should be. This may seem like a non sequitur, but did you ever see the Gurren Lagann parts of Super Robot Wars Z 2 – Saiseihen?

I’m getting the same feeling where the voice sounds right, but something is slightly off as though the actor wasn’t totally into it. Maybe it’ll be better when I’m playing the game itself. However, Joseph still sounds off. He doesn’t sound young or hot blooded enough to accidentally set off a volcano. That’s super robot levels of hot blood, so you have to bring you A game to that voice. Gyro is the only one I wasn’t at least somewhat bothered by.

Still looking forward to the game. Gyro’s horse has become the equivalent of The Big O’s piston punch because no matter how many flaws crop up in that game, stomping on people with a horse will save it just like the final move against Big Duo makes that whole show worth it.

Oh, and the pizza and mozzarella song and Gyro’s sweet 1800′s grill, obviously. Basically, I want this game for Gyro and no other reason.

Just try and find a better moment in JoJo’s than this. That’s what I thought.

Voice previews and official trailer for Jojo’s anime.

Posted in JoJo's Year with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on 2012/09/20 by doublegomez

Instead of screenshots like we have been getting, for once we actually have video previews of the upcoming Jojo’s material. First for the Anime:

Overall it looks pretty good, then again SpeedWagon does make anything and everything pretty good. The only real issue to put out there is that the animation that is put into the fights seems inconsistant. Johnathan getting punched in the face and SpeedWagon’s hat looked pretty alright, but Johnathan shoulder charging that bully wasn’t actually animated. Then again, it is a preview and it’s entirely possible that they are saving it for more important and longer fights. At least they fixed Dio’s “sharp” face. As for the game.

I love the guy on the right who’s cosplaying as Rohan. As for the actually game, I’m just really glad that they got a guy who sounds like Kiyoyuki Yanada, who voiced Jotaro in the first game. Actuall, all of the voices sounded pretty good, save for maybe Joseph. Not that his voice was bad, it just didn’t necessarily sound appropriate for a very hot-blooded young man. Then again, he and Mista are the only ones smart enough to bring a gun to the battle, so I can only fault Joseph so much.

You’ve got to love this year. It really is the best time to be a Jojo’s fan.
